Where We've Been and Where We're Going

STID is a Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation

Founded in 1981 in Orange County, California, Special Task Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (STID) was the first to provide the most comprehensive Medical Sign Language interpreting program in the nation.

The "STID Program" was designed to eliminate the frustration and anxiety brought on by communication problems between Deaf patients, their doctors and hospital staff.  Interpreter/Medical Aides specializing in Health Care were available to facilitate communication during every level of care and treatment including medical office visits, surgery, recovery, emergency room/trauma and during the process of childbirth.  Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing patients were guaranteed 100% equal access and received a "higher level of confidentiality" simply because interpreters were never changed or rotated.

After 25 years of service in Health Care and due to the foreseen changes in the industry, the Board of Directors has decided to take STID, Inc. in a new direction.
